Twenty Five Candles

So, this is it. The days of being a spry, young girl in my early twenties have officially ended and I've made my grand entrance as of 12:01 A.M. this morning into a new demographic: the mid-twenties.

I had dinner with a good friend last weekend and we discussed where we always thought we would be at twenty five. We both thought that we would be close to getting married, but this is a unofficial deadline that's no where near happening and I'm absolute, positively not bothered with that. I always imagined that I would be graduating medical school, which I am in May. I figured that I would have seen Michaelangelo's David statue, which I haven't yet, but realize that I've visited plenty of amazing international cities, beaches, and museums. I thought that I would have shared the same room air as my three favorite artists (Prince, George Michael, Elton John) by now, but as Meatloaf once sang, two out of three ain't bad.

For the longest time, I've approached this birthday with a mixed feelings of apprehension and anticipation. I thought that I would feel some sort of magical transformation into a proper grown-up that would gain a self realization, wisdom, and maturity.

I know where I've been and what I've done in the past twenty five years. Certainly, there are an abundance of things that I should have done, but didn't get done for whatever reason. I'm pretty okay with where I am and unsure as to what the future holds, but know that I'll be waiting with a smile and high hopes.

To my newest, happiest, best year yet.
