Low Heel, High Style

For a while, I believed that footwear is something that should have no middle ground; it was either barely off the ground flats or up in the air heels. Flats are considered eternally chic and associated with the gamine beauty Audrey Hepburn. High heels represent power and fortitude and are worn by stunning starlets on the red carpet. The middle ground being kitten heels are the shoes of choice for church ladies and librarians. In other words, dowdy and frumpy.

I'm 5'3" barefoot, but transformed to a respectable 5'7" with lofty heels slipped on. A taller stature associated with power and confidence, so remind me again why I would want to give that up, especially on a day that's as important as an interview day? Oh, yeah, the possibility of a social blunder in the form of a face plant and/or a sprained ankle while traversing the hallways of the hospitals.

After some deliberation, I decided a kitten heel would be the best bet. If they're good enough for the First Ladies of USA and France, they're certainly good enough for me! (picture via)

I was determined to find a kitten shoe that married style, comfort, without the frump factor and I think found just that in these lovelies by Ferragamo (paired below with the trouser socks from J. Crew).

I found this quote by Marilyn Monroe and thought it was delightful. And I'm hoping that it's true, especially for the above pictured pair.

  2. I used to have a pair of the loveliest kitten heel sandals that upped any outfit, yet were subtle enough to be dressed down. They broke :( I always love a good kitten heel. I am 5 foot 3 as well...and those shoes are GORGEOUS! Ferragamo?!?!? Sigh!
